Public Lectures
Along with two regular lectures series - the Edmund Kemper Broadus Lectures and the F.M. Salter Lectures on Language - the department annually hosts several visiting speakers each year, who help make this an exciting place to work and study. Recent visitors have included Patricia Yaeger, Zacharias Kunuk, Lucia Nagib, Judith Halberstam, Rosemary Hennessy, Lauren Berlant, and Anne Cvetkovich. Nobel poet laureate Derek Walcott will be in residence and teaching from 2009 through 2012. We also host many creative writers throughout the year. Recently these have included Tim Lilburn, Rachel Zolf, Louis Cabri, Robert Bringhurst, Karen Connelly, Rita Wong and Larissa Lai. In addition, our Writer-in-Residence each year provides two readings and a tradition of exchange with the University of Calgary's Residence Program also brings in an additional writer. Our CRC in Cultural Studies, Imre Szeman, has also instituted an annual series of lectures: On New Directions in Culture, Politics and Theory.
